automat

As I mentioned, my mom and GG are coming to visit this week! I'm so excited about their visit; my mom usually visits each year around this time, but GG hasn't been to the Big Apple since she was 16 (sorry to give away her age, but that was 1942!!) and her dad was in the Navy stationed in Brooklyn. She's been telling me the story of her visit for as long as I can remember. - she tried cheesecake for the very first time when she was visiting, and she got it out of an automat!

I mentioned this to Katherine on Sunday night and she knew exactly what I was talking about from her love of old movies! Check this out:

I've done some googling to find out whethere there are still any automats left in NYC. I found this one place called BAMN, but it looks like it closed in 2009. If you know of anything, give me a shout.

Sadly, it's been a while since I've been in the "true" football spirit. (Sorry, Rose!) People get excited about football in New York, but not like they do in the south, especially for the Iron Bowl! As an added bonus of getting to go home for Thanksgiving, the Iron Bowl was a mere 15 minute ride from home this year. Even more ironically, several good friends from Auburn migrated west after college and now call T-town home so I was able to spend the day cheering on the Auburn Tigers with college friends! I've never been so frazzled watching a game and so ecstatic all in the same moment, but I was this year for the 28-27 victory! It felt good to be back in the spirit!!
And I can't forget, even though they were wearing crimson and houndstooth, it was also great to catch up with some old friends from high school!

But, still, War Eagle!!!

25 years of celebrations

I was born three weeks early, so my granddad had no inclination to expect he would have a granddaughter for a birthday present since my mom was due mid-December. In fact, the night I was born, it took my dad a few hours to get in touch with my grandparents to tell them I had been born! But ever since, we've been having big celebrations every year. Since this was the "25th Anniversary" of our celebrations together, I decided to pull out all the pictures of our birthdays over the past 25 years. I was partially successful... there were only 13 years missing out of the 25. My mom is still apologizing profusely (since she found pictures from every year of my oldest brother's birthdays), but being the youngest child of 4, I think having 12 years worth of birthday pictures is still pretty good. And you'll still get the idea:
