maybe high fives AREN'T the new hugs

I probably would not have had a single friend in high school, according to the NY Times article from this morning's front page, "For Teenagers, Hello Means 'How About a Hug?'".

“If somebody were to not hug someone, to never hug anybody, people might be just a little wary of them and think they are weird or peculiar,” said Gabrielle Brown, a freshman at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan.

is texting hazardous to my health?!

Do you agree with this article? I can't tell you how thankful I am to have an iPhone right now. (and apparently my thumbs should be thanking me too.) This is my favorite excerpt:

Texting may also be taking a toll on teenagers’ thumbs. Annie Wagner, 15, a ninth-grade honor student in Bethesda, Md., used to text on her tiny LG phone as fast as she typed on a regular keyboard. A few months ago, she noticed a painful cramping in her thumbs. (Lately, she has been using the iPhone she got for her 15th birthday, and she says texting is slower and less painful.)

Thanks Dad!!

They came! :) And luckily, you didn't have to find out where anyone lived to track them down...

happy memorial day...from NYC!

Me, Victoria, Lara, Julie, Sara and Beulah celebrating Memorial Day in Central Park with ambrosia (thanks for introducing me, Lara!), banana pudding and tons of other great food! (of course, I would only blog about the food...)

city of brotherly love

As indicated by my earlier post, I made a short day-trip to Philadelphia this weekend with LA and Pamela! It was one of the most exhausting days I can remember, but well worth it! We had a blast... and I figure that pictures will say it better than I can describe, so take a gander:

We started the morning out right - Krispy Kreme in Penn Station!

The first thing I did when I got to Philly: give Ben Franklin a hug!

the Design School at U Penn- not quite Spidle Hall, huh?

the most delicious breakfast bar from Metropolitan Bakery- yes, this was breakfast no.2 after Krispy Kreme.

Philly's version of the "Love" sign (yes, NYC's is definitely better!)

me and LA in front of City Hall

life sized game pieces- Yellow Sorry, my fave!

Welcome to Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love!

no matter how far out of school I get, the Chi O still comes out in me when I see an owl...

and then the Republican came out in me!

yes, we went all the way to Philadelphia to eat lunch at... Chick Fil A. totally worth it.

beautiful historic streets in Philly, where LA and I intend to reside when we move there :)

this is for the GG's!

beautiful ivy-covered houses on Quince St.

Betsy Ross's house, where the first American flag was sewn!!

and to end the excursion Auburn-style, LA and I made a quick stop in Pita Pit for the train ride home. I forgot how much I loved this place...

Philly, I can't wait to go back...hopefully for longer next time!

Yogurtland

The name says it all. But in case it doesn't, feast your eyes on this:

Peanut butter yogurt, Cheesecake yogurt, Dutch Chocolate yogurt, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, M&Ms, and cookie dough. And yes... I ate it all.

Going to Philly!

This weekend I'm going to Philadelphia for a short day trip!! I've decided I should take advantage of exploring the Northeast while I live here and have easy public transportation access to such fun and historical places. LA, Pamela and I are going to hit the road (or technically, the tracks) early Saturday morning and hope for no rain. Here's one proposed itinerary, thanks to Julie:

Things to do while in Philly:
  • EAT EAT EAT! Philly cheesesteaks at famous Pats or Genos
  • Constitution Hall (with Liberty Bell)
  • Rittenhouse SquareCity Hall and the LOVE sign
  • Philadelphia Art Museum (do the Rocky run up the stairs culminating in victory fist pumps in the air)
  • and of course, pretend to be Julie Lee for a day and enjoy the institute of higher learning at the University of Pennsylvania, the first university in America

And I just found out Betsy Ross's house is in Philly too! Only 3 more days... and counting!

stories from the big apple

If I've learned one thing after working in New York for a year (Yes, TODAY is my one year anniversary at Perkins Eastman!) it's that you will inevitably encounter all kinds of people...and some, although strange and different, are flat-out hilarious! But variety is the spice of life, right? One of my coworkers, that I've posted about before, sent me an email today sharing this latest shopping escapade with me:

Today, I was planning on meeting my friend at the mall. She came late, and I was in the dressing room trying on a few things. When I came out to meet her, she looked at me oddly and said, "You shouldn't buy that, it looks terrible on you." Those were the clothes I came in.
