I realized last night on the way home from the picnic that it was the first Memorial Day (possibly ever) that I hadn't had BBQ. But I got the next closest thing...

happy memorial day...from NYC!

city of brotherly love
As indicated by my earlier post, I made a short day-trip to Philadelphia this weekend with LA and Pamela! It was one of the most exhausting days I can remember, but well worth it! We had a blast... and I figure that pictures will say it better than I can describe, so take a gander:
We started the morning out right - Krispy Kreme in Penn Station!
The first thing I did when I got to Philly: give Ben Franklin a hug!
the Design School at U Penn- not quite Spidle Hall, huh?
the most delicious breakfast bar from Metropolitan Bakery- yes, this was breakfast no.2 after Krispy Kreme.
Philly's version of the "Love" sign (yes, NYC's is definitely better!)
me and LA in front of City Hall
life sized game pieces- Yellow Sorry, my fave!
and to end the excursion Auburn-style, LA and I made a quick stop in Pita Pit for the train ride home. I forgot how much I loved this place...
Philly, I can't wait to go back...hopefully for longer next time!
Yogurtland
Why do I find this story so hilarious?
Either news is getting more and more ridiculous or I am getting more and more heartless regarding snakes and animal cruelty regulations.

Going to Philly!
This weekend I'm going to Philadelphia for a short day trip!! I've decided I should take advantage of exploring the Northeast while I live here and have easy public transportation access to such fun and historical places. LA, Pamela and I are going to hit the road (or technically, the tracks) early Saturday morning and hope for no rain. Here's one proposed itinerary, thanks to Julie:
Things to do while in Philly:
Things to do while in Philly:
- EAT EAT EAT! Philly cheesesteaks at famous Pats or Genos
- Constitution Hall (with Liberty Bell)
- Rittenhouse SquareCity Hall and the LOVE sign
- Philadelphia Art Museum (do the Rocky run up the stairs culminating in victory fist pumps in the air)
- and of course, pretend to be Julie Lee for a day and enjoy the institute of higher learning at the University of Pennsylvania, the first university in America
And I just found out Betsy Ross's house is in Philly too! Only 3 more days... and counting!
stories from the big apple
If I've learned one thing after working in New York for a year (Yes, TODAY is my one year anniversary at Perkins Eastman!) it's that you will inevitably encounter all kinds of people...and some, although strange and different, are flat-out hilarious! But variety is the spice of life, right? One of my coworkers, that I've posted about before, sent me an email today sharing this latest shopping escapade with me:
Today, I was planning on meeting my friend at the mall. She came late, and I was in the dressing room trying on a few things. When I came out to meet her, she looked at me oddly and said, "You shouldn't buy that, it looks terrible on you." Those were the clothes I came in.

high fives are the new hugs
this looks like the perrrfect solution for me!
i love street fairs
They're pretty common in New York. And every one is pretty similar to the next. But I still love them like no other. Julie and I scheduled a run for Saturday morning in Central Park and then quickly decided to make our way over to the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival afterwards. Believe me, if you are looking for the quickest way to counteract any exercise or running you just did, this is it. But thanks to Julie, we came up with the ideal situation to try out all the "international" and "ethnic" food we wanted.
- Meat on a stick, Pork
- Blooming Onion, with all the sauce you could want
- A bag of fried oreos, with plenty of powdered sugar to spare
(yes, this is the most unflattering picture ever... but it was taken for the purpose of noting the extreme enjoyment of eating a fried oreo, which I think it clearly depicts, so I felt obligated to put it up!)
speaking of anniversaries...
My last day of high school.

It has been a big week of anniversaries for me. Today, I graduated high school 5 years ago! WHERE does the time go? It seems like just yesterday I was sitting on the SGA couch in 1st block with Meg and Chase talking about the upcoming football game on Friday night. Or prom. Wow, can't believe that's been five years either. Most people don't believe me when I say this, but I loved high school. Absolutely loved it. And even though I've had some really fun and great times since then, those memories and friends are some of the fondest I can name to date. I feel like I've gotten to the point in my life where all I can see are years zooming by... does it ever stop?
happy 1 year in the big apple!
I can't believe it... I've officially made it through my entire first year in New York City - summer, fall, winter, and spring! One year ago TODAY I moved here. What a great first year it's been!!
My first night back in NYC one year ago at the HFNY benefit!
5 seconds of fame
If you know me very well, you know I've aspired much of my life to be on TV (as hard as that may be to believe for some). Regis and Perryn Skye? Has a nice ring to it, right? Well I finally got my "big break", sorta. Just check this out! Not quite the Today Show or The View, but more than I ever got on TV living in Alabama!
