some wally-world fun

Look closely... I bet there isn't ONE listed that you haven't seen if you've ever made a trip into this hometown corporate giant that we all know and love!

a g-chat from my mom

I'm not sure why I found this so amusing, but I did...

Mom: been cooking for an hour or so...having squash cass., turnip greens, green beans, corn on and off the cob, yeast biscuits....yum yum wish you could have some...bye before they burn...

Doesn't McKay look beautiful?! She was telling me this morning on the phone about losing her SECOND tooth! I told her I wanted to see a picture of her and she said "Ok. I still look very pretty." Then I got this picture, and I concurred :)

3 things on the (wishful) to do list:

3 Places I'd like to visit this summer (now, if I can just get my hands on a blank check made out to Delta Airlines):

Arizona! Even though it might be 120 degrees, I want to visit that desert state so bad to see Cay & Dave and their cute little abode out there!

Ft. Walton Beach! This is hopefully already a reality. Just waiting to buy my plane ticket, but the vacation time has already been approved!!

Orlando! Not to see Mickey Mouse, but Ashley York! She is doing her interior design internship there and I'd LOVE to be able to fly down and spend a weekend with her.

I'm in search of a bike! Anyone know of a good place to get a good deal on a bike? Nothing fancy, just a way to enjoy the upcoming beautiful weather in NYC. I'm trying Craig's List, but don't know how dependable that is. Suggestions on specific stores are gladly welcomed! I mentioned K-Mart to Buck and Christine last night, but I don't think I got a favorable response from that. I thought that's where Santa Clause got all of his bikes though...?

pear & perryn

as you probably could have guessed, I have a slight affinity to pears due largely in part to the fact that I finally have something that can be closely related to my name, since I never got the pre-made pencils or notepads with my name on them growing up. Many many thanks to Cay for sharing this amazing website with me full of FREE downloadable pear paper!!! Here's my favorite:

12 hours of non-billable time

Those words are as feared as being diagnosed with the swine flu these days. Never do you want to think about having even 5 minutes of non-billable time at work. But, when I got to spend a day and a half creating something like this, I was one happy camper! I was commissioned to come up with a design for a display wall in our office in which the design had to correlate to the Master Format (a standard for classifying materials that are specified for architecture and design projects) Division 9, which covers interior materials and finishes. So here it is: each slice of the color wheel represents one of the different sections of Division 9 - Plaster and Gypsum Board, Tile, Ceilings, Flooring, Wall Finishes, Acoustical Treatment, and Painting and Coatings. This kind of work... I could get used to!

I forgot how good Krispy Kreme is!

Thanks to one of our furniture reps for bringing this for a nice breakfast treat this morning :) However, I also forgot how bad my stomach hurts after inhaling one of these in less than 5 minutes.

happy cinco de mayo (a day late)

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise wasmanufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars ofthe condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to bethe next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise everdelivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to NewYork. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerlyawaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was sogreat, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they stillobserve to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May5th, and is known of course as "Sinko de Mayo".

Thanks for this story, Anna Curl!!

blogger block

If anyone still looks at this blog, you may have noticed quite the decrease in the number of posts. The way I see it, that could be either of two things: 1. a good thing because most of my posts were/are quite random anyway, so no one is really missing out by not having those random thoughts published all over the world wide web or 2. my life has taken so many unexpected turns recently that I don't even have the energy to think up random thoughts anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still sit at work with not much going on (so still TIME for random thoughts...just no energy), but just when I thought the economy couldn't take a worse turn, it did! Architecture & Design definitely is not the place to be in a bad economy. So, if you or anyone you know is looking for a professional blogger assistant, you know where to find me!

saddest phone conversation I've ever had

Last night I was talking to McKay on the phone and this is what our conversation sounded like:

Me: Hey McKay!

McKay: Hey Aunt Perryn! I miiiiiss you (in a sad, nasaly little girl voice).

Me: I miss you too, McKay.

McKay: Aunt Perryn, I don't even remember what you look like...

Me: Yes you do McKay! I have blond hair and I look like your daddy.

McKay: You don't look like my daddy. I can't even remember what you look like.

Shake Shack, anyone?

Last Saturday night the weather in New York was incredible! Beautiful, warm, spring-like, people buzzing around everywhere outside...so Pamela and I decided to take a nice 26 block walk to the new Shake Shack on the UWS. We opted for a seat on a park bench outside of the Museum of Natural History to eat dinner and chat. Then as we were leaving and went to throw out our trash, we noticed that everyone else in the city must have had the same idea as us! Check out this garbage can:

realizations I've had in the last week:

1. I need an apartment with windows.
2. I really don't like sleeping late, but when I don't have windows in my room, it's virtually impossible not to...
3. Getting up for work would be SO much easier if I had windows in my room OR my apartment.
4. Depression for people who don't have windows is likely a very real problem.
5. The next apartment I get WILL have windows - lots and lots of them, like Julie's apartment. No compromises.
